SKOPJE, 28. NOV. 2016 – On the occasion of Independence Day in Albania, a Union of Albanian municipalities in the Balkans region has been formed in Tirana. The Union includes cities of 5 countries – Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo and Montenegro and represents clandestine ambitions for Greater Albania, Macedonian state news agency MIA reported. Officially, the goal of this agreement is mutual cooperation in the segment of culture, urbanism, environment. However, experts for the Balkan events fear that this will cause much bigger consequences and matches the intentions of SDSM leader Zoran Zaev, to introduce federalization and cantonization of Macedonia. According to Zaev’s promises, the future federalization or cantonization of the country, which is to be decided upon later, will have 3 stages, implemented in the next several years. The first stage would introduce complete bilingualism on the entire territory of the country. This would mean use of Albanian as an official language, mostly in the security sector and institutions, police and army. Zaev’s speech addressing the Albanian diaspora in Bern sparked reactions among the Macedonian public. Zaev has publicly spoken for the equality of language use, i.e. introducing bilingualism on the entire territory of Macedonia. The second stage would introduce the division of the country in federal units, cantons, i.e. developing municipalities in a “more advanced system of self-governing”. This stage would mean administrative merging of the federal units. The third phase would be separating parts of the country via local referendums of the six cantons, and merging them to neighboring countries. Zaev’s intention is not new, he has been preparing this scenario for a long time.
