SKOPJE, 17. NOV. 2015 – Macedonian authorities began clearing the ground on Nov. 16 in the border area with Greece near Gevgelija in preparation for the possible erection of a wire fence, the Macedonian media has reported. The Macedonia Interior Ministry has stepped up controls of refugees and migrants, entering the country from Greece in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris.The Security Council, headed by Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov, decided that the Macedonian Army would immediately begin preparations to clear the ground for the possible erection of a fence “the goal of which is not to close the border with Greece, but to restrict the flow of migrants in line with the number of refugees/migrants that the European Union countries to which they are traveling would accept.” The erection of the fence, according to a statement issued by the Macedonian president’s office, would only take place if absolutely necessary, if the countries to which the migrants are being sent substantially reduce the flow of the migrants.
